An environmentally friendly sustainable alternative toteak? What is Para wood?
Is it "environment friendly"?
Originating in Brazil, Para wood is now to be found in strictly managed plantations all over Thailand. It also accounts for over 65% of all furniture now manufactured in Thailand. Each tree will yield latex for a given period (usually around 20 years) and then has to be felled to make way for new trees to be planted. This wood is then sold to the furniture industry. The emergence of Para wood (also referred to as Hevea wood or Rubber wood) as an internationally established wood product has often been termed a `success story.' Various factors have contributed to this development, first and foremost the fact that Para wood represents a sustainable alternative to tropical woods extracted from Asia’s tropical Rainforests. Furthermore, Para wood has proven to be very versatile in its use in the furniture manufacturing industry. |
